  • Mitchell Squarey

    Physiotherapist/Owner

    Registered International Sport Physical Therapist MScPT, BScBio, Diploma in Sport Physiotherapy

    Mitchell is a two-time graduate of Dalhousie University, where he obtained his Masters in Physiotherapy. He has taken extensive post-graduate training in manual therapy, sport therapy & taping, exercise prescription, acupuncture and dry needling. He is a holder of the highest sport physiotherapy qualification in Canada, the Diploma in Sport Physiotherapy. He is one of only 11 physiotherapists in Atlantic Canada to obtain this qualification.

    Mitchell is a two-time graduate of Dalhousie University, where he obtained his Masters in Physiotherapy. He has taken extensive post-graduate training in manual therapy, sport therapy & taping, exercise prescription, acupuncture and dry needling. He has obtained the highest sport physiotherapy qualification in Canada, the Diploma in Sport Physiotherapy. He is one of only 11 physiotherapists in Atlantic Canada to obtain this qualification. He also holds the globally recognized title of Registered International Sport Physical Therapist. Upon graduation from Physiotherapy school, Mitchell was awarded the Nova Scotia Physiotherapy Association’s Leadership Award, and eventually the NSPAs New Graduate of the year, a few years into practice.

    He has been the sport physiotherapist for the Halifax McDonalds U18 Major hockey team since 2013. Mitchell has also worked with Hockey Nova Scotia’s High-Performance Program, St. Margert’s Bay Rebels Junior Lacrosse, the Senior Men’s Soccer teams for Halifax City & Western Halifax FC, and the CPA Allen High School Football team. He was the lead therapist for the EastCoast IceJam hockey tournament from 2015 – 2021 and was selected as part of the host medical team for the 2017 & 2022 & 2023 Canada Games. Attending the 2017 Games in Winnipeg!

    He is a past board member of Nova Scotia Physiotherapy Association and was on the executive for the Nova Scotia Section of Sport Physiotherapy Canada from 2014-2021, eventually holding the position of Chair.

    Mitchell is an advocate for living a healthy, active lifestyle and takes great pride in helping his patients achieve their movement and performance goals. He believes a strong individualized plan involving; education, strengthening/mobility exercise, and manual therapy are integral in achieving these goals. Through his advanced background in sport/exercise & manual therapy training, he is able to create individualized treatment programs for the elite athlete, weekend warrior, and individuals looking to become and stay more physically active.

    Outside the clinic, he keeps active with resistance/cardio exercise, sport, and spending time with his kids.

  • Ghislain LeBlanc

    Physiotherapist

    MScPT, BScKin, Certificate in Sport Physiotherapy

    Ghislain grew up in Bathurst, NB. He completed his BSc. in Kinesiology at the Université de Moncton and then completed his MSc. in Physiotherapy at the University of Ottawa in 2012. He obtained his Certificate in Sport Physiotherapy in 2021. Over the years, Ghislain has developed a strong interest in vestibular rehabilitation and sport physiotherapy. He has taken extensive post-graduate training in vestibular rehabilitation, exercise prescription, taping, sport physiotherapy and prevention of running injuries. Outside of the clinic, Ghislain enjoys playing hockey and snowboarding in the winter and during the summer, you will likely find Ghislain on a mountain biking trail or a golf course.

    Ghislain grew up in Bathurst, NB and went on to complete his Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology at the Université de Moncton in 2010. He then completed his Masters of Science in Physiotherapy at the University of Ottawa in 2012. Most recently, Ghislain was successful in passing and obtaining his Certificate in Sport Physiotherapy, from Sport Physiotherapy Canada. He is now one of only 18 physiotherapists to have obtained this distinguished qualification in Nova Scotia.

    As he is fluent in both English and French, Ghislain is able to serve you in either language.

    Since graduating, Ghislain has worked in various settings including private practice, inpatients, critical care, cardiorespiratory and orthopaedics. Over the years, Ghislain has developed a strong interest in vestibular rehabilitation and sport physiotherapy. He has taken extensive post-graduate training in vestibular rehabilitation, exercise prescription, taping, sport physiotherapy and prevention of running injuries. He is currently a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association’s Sport and Orthopedic Divisions.

    Ghislain’s passion for sport physiotherapy began during his two seasons as a student therapist for the Université de Moncton men’s soccer team. Since then, he has covered many sporting events at a local, provincial and national level including hockey, soccer, track and field, figure skating, football. He was also part of the medical team for a Nitro Circus event. Ghislain has worked with the St. Stephen Aces Junior A hockey team, the KV Kings Bantam AAA Major team, Hockey NB U15 Program, Hockey High Performance Program, the U16 Major Admirals & Buccaneers and the St. Margaret’s Bay Rebels Junior Lacrosse Team.

    Ghislain was selected as part of the Sponsored Medical Team for the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara and will be working the 2023 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) this coming summer!

    Outside of the clinic, Ghislain tries to stay active. He enjoys playing hockey and snowboarding in the winter time. During the summer, you will likely find Ghislain on a mountain biking trail or a golf course.

  • Austin Nichol

    Physiotherapist

    MScPT, BScKin(Hons)

    Originally from Toronto, Austin is a two-time graduate of Dalhousie University, where he played for the Dalhousie Men’s Rugby team and volunteered as an athletic trainer for both Saint Mary’s, Dalhousie University and Hockey Nova Scotia, while completing his Masters. This created a special interest in the assessment and treatment of sport-related injuries, along with concussion. Austin encourages his clients to take an active approach to their rehabilitation and specializes in the use of individualized exercise programs and education for the treatment of various musculoskeletal conditions. He has post-graduate training in orthopaedic physiotherapy, dry needling, and concussion management. Most recently, Austin completed training to become a certified Sport First Responder.

While completing his Masters, he worked with Hockey Nova Scotia, where he took a special interest in the assessment and treatment of sport-related injuries. Austin encourages his clients to take an active approach to their rehabilitation and specializes in the use of individualized exercise programs and education for the treatment of various musculoskeletal conditions. He has post-graduate training in orthopaedic physiotherapy, dry needling, and concussion management. Most recently, Austin completed training to become a certified Sport First Responder. He has a special interest in Acquired Brain Injury and Concussions, having suffered concussions himself while playing competitive amateur sport. Austin is our in-house Complete Concussions Practitioner. Assessing acute, and chronic symptomatic patients, then formulating a plan to manage and resolve their symptoms.

    Austin’s knowledge and first-hand experience with sport includes doing an honors thesis, studying the effect of hockey goaltender equipment on upper body mobility, and being the student rep for his Masters Class, on the Sport Physiotherapy Canada – NS Executive.

    Austin enjoys being an advocate for and participating in recreational sports/exercise himself through swimming, biking, running and spending time outdoors. As an experienced triathlete and contact sport athlete, Austin brings firsthand experience to the assessment and treatment of various sport-related injuries. Austin uses client-centred, evidence informed treatment to help his patients achieve their goals, whatever they may be.

  • Amanda Monk

    Physiotherapist - Resident

    MScPT, BScBio, Sport First Responder

    Amanda grew up in Porters Lake, NS. She is a double alumna of Dalhousie University completing both her BSc. in Kinesiology and MSc. in Physiotherapy. Amanda has volunteered as an athletic trainer for multiple sporting events and has been the athletic trainer for the NS U15 Major Gulls since 2017.

    Amanda uses an individualized approach to rehabilitation, selecting from various evidence-based techniques to support her patients. She has post-graduate training in orthopaedic physiotherapy, K-taping, and is a certified Sport First Responder.

Amanda has worked with the PA Football team, Hockey Nova Scotia U15 program, and notably has been the athletic trainer for the NS U15 Major Gulls since 2017.

    Amanda uses an individualized approach to rehabilitation, selecting from various evidence-based techniques to support her patients. She has post-graduate training in orthopaedic physiotherapy, K-taping, and is a certified Sport First Responder.

    Outside the clinic, Amanda enjoys playing hockey, hiking with her pal Sookie (her yellow lab), running, and diving.

  • Dr. Amanda Volcko

    CHIROPRACTOR

    DC, BSc, Contemporary Medical Acupuncture

    Dr. Amanda Volcko grew up in Halifax, and completed her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at Mount Allison University, continuing on to the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, graduating with her Doctorate in Chiropractic. During her time at Mount Allison, she was a member of the Mountie’s Varsity Women’s Soccer and Hockey teams, and was named the Outstanding Senior Female Athlete in her last year at Mt. Allison. 

    Dr. Amanda Volcko grew up in Halifax, and completed her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at Mount Allison University in 2016. She then continued her education at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, graduating with her Doctorate in Chiropractic. During her time at Mount Allison, she was a member of the Mountie’s Varsity Women’s Soccer and Hockey teams. Dr. Volcko was named the Outstanding Senior Female Athlete in her last year at Mt. Allison.

    Amanda uses evidence based treatment techniques including joint mobilization and manipulation, soft tissue therapy, acupuncture, laser therapy, electrotherapies, and exercise prescription. She is certified in Contemporary Medical Acupuncture and Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Techniques. She is passionate about helping people achieve their health goals, and believes in a patient centred care approach.

    Outside the clinic, Amanda enjoys playing soccer, rollerblading, and hiking to keep active!

  • Victoria Steenbeek

    Registered Massage Therapist

    Victoria was born on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, and graduated from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in Halifax, in 2018. In 2021, Victoria returned back to school and will be graduating with her Bachelor of Health Science from Thompson Rivers university this year.

    Victoria is very experienced in treating athletes of all levels, and also enjoys treating pre/post natal patients, pelvic floor dysfunction, along with children.

    Victoria was born on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, and graduated from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in Halifax, in 2018. In 2021, Victoria returned back to school and will be graduating with her Bachelor of Health Science from Thompson Rivers university this year.

    Victoria is very experienced in treating athletes of all levels, and also enjoys treating pre/post natal patients, pelvic floor dysfunction, along with children.

    In her free time, you can find Victoria cooking, walking on Risser’s beach, or with her dogs, Rocky and Mickey.

    Paula is passionate about and a firm believer in great customer service.  She learned from an early age, in helping with her father’s company, the importance of this in any business.Having worked in the healthcare field for most of her career, she is bringing her experience, energy and drive for a fun but patient centered approach to Move Physiotherapy.

    Paula is passionate about and a firm believer in great customer service.  She learned from an early age, in helping with her father’s company, the importance of this in any business.  After receiving her diploma in Business Management, she has strived to bring a positive and energetic approach to every position she has held. Having worked in the healthcare field for most of her career, she is bringing her experience, energy and drive for a fun but patient centred approach to MOVE Physiotherapy.  When she is not assisting our front desk, she loves to be outside, enjoying nature and fresh air.

  • Marie Pitre

    Administrative Assistant

    Marie was born and raised in Fredericton, NB and moved to the Halifax area in 2018. She graduated with her diploma in Office Administration from the New Brunswick Community College in 2017. She has developed a passion for health and fitness through swimming in her younger years and moving into a gym setting later on. Marie combines her passion for health & fitness, along with her strong administrative and customer service, to help MOVE’s patients every day.

    Marie was born and raised in Fredericton, NB and moved to the Halifax area in 2018. She graduated with her diploma in Office Administration from the New Brunswick Community College in 2017. She has since worked in various administrative fields, bringing the skills she learned in her program. Marie has developed a passion for health and fitness through swimming in her younger years and moving into a gym setting later on. Bringing together that passion for health and her administrative skills, she has worked in many health-related fields and is bringing that experience to MOVE Physiotherapy. In her free time, she enjoys going to the gym, hiking, and reading.

  • Joy Lo

    Yoga Instructor

    Joy has always led an active lifestyle and chose to complete her Yoga Teacher Training program in 2014 after using Yoga to help rehabilitate a personal injury. She started teaching through outreach programs with the Laing House and then the IWK Choices group that focused on helping teens with addiction. Teaching is Joy’s way of sharing her love of Yoga, guiding others to develop their own practice and passion. She brings a playful and interactive approach to her practice that speaks to people of all ages and abilities. She focuses on a mindful practice that allows clients to pay attention to each pose, prevent injury and over time increase joint mobility and muscle stability.

    Joy’s passion for yoga began around 2008. Being fit has always been an important part of her life, but while training for a 10km run, she tripped and badly sprained her ankle. Since she had taken Yoga Classes in the past, she decided to go back to stay in shape during the healing process. There she met a teacher who taught yoga in a way that spoke to her.

    Over time her practice depend and she enrolled in the Yoga Teacher Training program, completing it in 2014. Although her intention was never really to teach, Joy started doing outreach through the Laing House and then the IWK Choices group, with a focus on helping teens with addiction.

    Graham is a Canadian Certified Pedorthist and has been working in the medical field since 2008 helping patients alleviate foot and lower limb pain and get them back to living a healthy and active lifestyle. He is trained to design and fit custom foot orthotics based on his patients’ symptoms, foot type, and activity level.

    Graham is a Canadian Certified Pedorthist, BSc, C Ped (C), C Ped Tech (C). Graham has been working in the medical field since 2008 helping patients alleviate foot and lower limb pain and get them back to living a healthy and active lifestyle. He is trained to design and fit custom foot orthotics based on his patients’ symptoms, foot type, and activity level.

    Graham enjoys educating his patients regarding foot care, which includes the correct footwear and exercise programs for the feet. Graham is dedicated to finding the right solution for his patients. He is fluent in sign language.
