Physiotherapy

At MOVE Physiotherapy we are committed to health, lifestyle and quality of life. Physiotherapy is anchored in movement sciences and aims to enhance or restore function of multiple body systems. We are dedicated to improving quality of life by:

  • Promoting optimal mobility and physical activity
  • Helping to prevent disease, injury, and disability
  • Managing acute and chronic conditions, activity limitations, and participation restrictions
  • Improving and maintaining optimal functional independence and physical performance
  • Rehabilitating injury and the effects of disease or disability
  • Educating and planning maintenance and support programs to prevent re-occurrence, re-injury or functional decline

Manual Therapy/Soft Tissue Techniques

  • Hands on treatment to help restore or enhance normal movement of the body. These may include joint mobilizations or manipulations, active-assisted stretching techniques and guided exercise technique
  • Our therapists have undergone post-graduate training and mentorship through the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association which is accredited by the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physiotherapy to be able to provide the most up to date, evidence based treatment

Active Rehabilitation (Exercise prescription and Strength and Conditioning)

  • Strength and exercise are an integral part of recovering from an injury and for participation in daily activities. Our therapists will create individualized exercise and strength programs to restore or enhance movement and performance.

Acupuncture and Dry Needling

  • Both Acupuncture and Dry Needling are safe practices that involve inserting sterile, very thin needles through the skin to promote natural healing
  • Acupuncture has been around for more than 2000 years and is one of the most commonly used medical practices around the world. It can help reduce pain and inflammation and promote improved functioning of the body.
  • During Dry Needling the needle is inserted directly into a muscle creating a twitch which effectively reduces muscle tension and can help to improve range of motion and reduce pain.

Concussion Services

  • Concussion in defined in research as a mild traumatic brain injury and can be acquired through sport, motor vehicle incidents, falls or other daily activities. If not assessed and treated properly concussion can cause lingering deficiencies.
  • Baseline Testing is recommended for anyone participating in any form of contact or high level sport. It consists of standardized cognitive and physical assessments to determine ‘normal’ values for each individual. This information is invaluable for assessing and determining the most appropriate management plan for concussion.
  • We are a certified Complete Concussion Management Service Provider

Vestibular Rehabilitation

  • Vestibular disorders can often cause a variety of symptoms including dizziness, vertigo, nausea and balance problems
  • Following a thorough assessment, the therapists are able to create a treatment plan including evidence-based techniques and exercises to address the cause of those symptoms
  • Our physiotherapist, Ghislain Leblanc has taken post-graduate training in vestibular rehab and are able to make a thorough assessment.

Therapeutic and Athletic Taping

  • Therapeutic taping can be an advantageous part of improving and restoring mobility. It can help to reduce inflammation, improve movement patterns and facilitate proprioception.
  • Athletic taping, along with the same benefits of therapeutic taping, can help to facilitate and early return to sport post injury
  • All of our therapists have advance training in therapeutic and athletic taping

Therapeutic Modalities

  • In addition to our other services, your therapist may choose to include one of our therapeutic modalities to aid in your treatment
  • These include heat, cold, Interferential Current (IFC), Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) and Ultrasound.
  • These can aid in reduction of pain and inflammation, promote healing and initiate muscle contraction

Massage Therapy

Our massage therapists strive to empower you, giving you the confidence to regain your physical abilities in order to live the lifestyle you love.

They combine therapeutic massage techniques, education and mobility exercises to safely and effectively treat your concerns. You will get an individualized treatment plan centred around your specific goals. This will help to identify what your current capabilities are and allow our therapists to work with you to get you to where you want to be.

This complimentary and thoughtful method of treatment allows for more effective collaboration and care from the entire MOVE Physiotherapy team.

Fascial Stretch Therapy

  • Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is an evidence-based assisted stretching system. It is performed by your therapist, on the treatment table, and is applied within the framework of “Everything Being Connected”. The truth is that each of our muscles are wrapped in this delicate yet robust fabric known as Fascia (AKA the Connective Tissue Network). It is what allows our muscles to seamlessly transmit muscular tension and produce fluid bodily movements. As such, changes in its quality can result in altered movement patterns and soft tissue restrictions.
  • FST strategically and systematically addresses the Connective Tissue Network of the Body by gently guiding it through painless, undulating movements.
  • The outcome of this unique approach is having rendered soft tissues more Pliable and Supple and the associated Joints more Mobile.
  • This affords the recipient a “Window of Opportunity” where Movement occurs more freely and corrective exercises are more favourably adopted by the body.
  • Translation: your recovery, rehabilitative and/or therapeutic journey gets expedited!

Cupping

  • Cupping is a technique whereby a vacuum (negative pressure) is created in a cup, drawing the skin (fascia) up into the cup and separating the layers. The vacuum effect draws the new blood to the area helping to remove stagnation that may be present.
  • Cupping can help increase circulation, decrease fascial restrictions, increase range of motion and has many other benefits.
